How to wash cotton?

Cotton possesses natural qualities that make it require less frequent washing. Known for its breathable properties, cotton absorbs and releases moisture, keeping the body cool and dry. It also naturally repels dirt to some extent, making it less prone to staining compared to some other fabrics. While it may not repel odors like some fabrics, it does have the ability to absorb them.

How to wash cotton

Floria Collective uses cotton for our jackets, blazers, pants, shorts, and dresses. While jackets and blazers may require dry cleaning only, pants and dresses can be laundered at home. Cotton is naturally durable, ensuring longevity. Since some fabrics are naturally dyed and handwoven, we provide additional tips to help you preserve your garments.

How to:

  1. Use a mild detergent: Opt for a neutral and mild detergent suitable for delicate fabrics. Choose a detergent free of harsh chemicals or bleaches to protect the naturally dyed colors. We recommend brands like Neutral and Ecover.

  2. Cold or lukewarm water: Wash garments in cold or lukewarm water, max 30 degrees, to prevent color fading and fiber damage.

  3. Use gentle cycle: Select the delicate cycle on your washing machine, providing a gentle wash with less aggressive movements and reduced spinning, protecting the delicate handwoven fabric.

  4. Wash garments inside out: Turn garments inside out before placing them in the washing machine to protect the naturally dyed colors from direct contact with water and friction during washing.

  5. Wash small loads: Wash garments separately or with similar items to prevent tangling or damage from friction with other garments.

  6. Avoid harsh cleaning methods: Refrain from using aggressive cleaning methods such as bleaching, strong wringing, or scrubbing, as these can damage delicate handwoven fibers and fade naturally dyed colors.

  7. Dry with care: After washing, air dry garments flat on a surface, preferably away from direct sunlight to prevent color fading. Avoid using a dryer, as heat can damage cotton fibers.

Properly washing and maintaining your cotton clothing is essential to preserve the beautiful qualities of this natural fiber. Follow these simple steps and enjoy your exquisite garments even longer.
